Quick answer: A preschool tour usually takes 30 to 45 minutes and includes a walk through classrooms and shared spaces, plus time to ask the director about curriculum, staff, safety, and enrollment. Visiting during class hours lets you see how teachers interact with children, which tells you more than any brochure.
Before You Visit
Call ahead to schedule your tour and try to visit mid-morning, when classrooms are most active. Jot down your top questions, and if possible, bring your partner or anyone else involved in the decision. You're welcome to bring your child too, though some parents prefer a first visit on their own.
What Happens on the Tour
Meeting the director. At The Woodlands Young Learners Academy, you'll meet director Patricia Quintero, who started as a teacher in the 3-year-old classroom before moving into leadership. At Oak Ridge Young Learners Academy, you'll meet director Vicky Stanton, who has been with The Young Learners since the very beginning and helped launch TWYLA.
Walking the classrooms. You'll see age-specific classrooms and how the day is organized for each group. At Oak Ridge, that includes infant rooms for babies from 6 weeks old.
Shared learning spaces. At The Woodlands campus, you'll see the specialty classrooms children rotate through during the day, including the library, computer lab, science lab, music room, and gym.
Talking through enrollment. You'll learn about availability for your child's age, tuition, schedules, uniforms, and next steps.

Questions to Ask
What does a typical day look like for my child's age group?
What's the teacher-to-child ratio?
How long have your lead teachers been here?
How do you communicate with parents during the day?
How is your curriculum structured? (Both campuses build their programs around the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and Gifted Program Standards.)
What are your safety and pickup procedures?
What's current availability for my child's age?
After the Tour
Take a few minutes afterward to write down your impressions while they're fresh. If you're comparing several schools, note how each one felt, not just what it offered. Many families also schedule a second visit with their child before enrolling.
